02 / Why

Why this matters — to us, and to you.

AI is the most powerful general-purpose tool most of us will touch in our careers — which is exactly why it deserves a clear head, not a hot take. Here’s why we write about it, and why it’s worth your time to read.

WHY WE WRITE

The conversation needed less noise.

Here’s our whole thesis in one line: AI is a genuinely huge tool — one you can put to work today, and one you should stay wary of at the same time. Both halves are true, and most writing only tells you one. The breathless side sells you the upside; the doom side sells you the fear. Neither helps a leader who just needs to make a decision on Tuesday.

We started this blog to be the boring, trustworthy middle: clear language, real trade-offs, no agenda beyond getting it right. Powerful tools reward the people who understand them and quietly punish the ones who don’t — so the goal is to leave you able to use this one on purpose, with your eyes open.

We’re a consulting practice, so yes — this is also how you get to know us. But the deal is simple: the writing earns your trust by being genuinely useful, whether or not you ever hire us. That’s the whole point of the name. Meat and potatoes. The substantial stuff.

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE

Both things are true at once.

The concerns are real

Confident mistakes

It can be wrong in ways that sound completely authoritative. Used unchecked, that’s a liability.

Your data, somewhere else

Where does the input go, who can see it, and what are you agreeing to? Most teams have no idea.

Hype-driven spending

It’s easy to buy tools you don’t need to solve problems you don’t have.

So is the upside

Hours back, every week

Drafting, summarizing, sorting, searching — the unglamorous work that eats your team’s time.

A smaller team can do more

Capabilities that used to need a whole department are now a sensible afternoon’s setup.

An edge, if you’re early

The advantage goes to the teams who learned to use it well before their competitors did.

The goal isn’t to be a cheerleader or a skeptic. It’s to help you capture the upside without walking into the downsides.

Why read any of this

Because opting out is itself a decision — and a costly one.

01
The decisions are already on your desk

Your tools, vendors, and competitors are adopting AI whether or not you’ve formed a view. A little understanding now beats a forced reaction later.

02
A few hours saves you from the hype tax

Knowing how this actually works is the cheapest insurance against buying the wrong tool, leaking your data, or trusting a confident wrong answer.

Everything here is written for a smart, busy non-specialist. Read a piece in a coffee break and walk away able to ask better questions.
